Dancing in all its forms cannot be excluded from the curriculum of all noble education; dancing with the feet, with ideas, with words, and, need I add that one must also be able to dance with the pen? ~ Nietzsche

I’m Nichelle Strzepek. Welcome!
I am a dance artist, teacher, and writer. I live in Houston and have called Texas home for nearly a decade but I grew up in Central Pennsylvania. My fascination with movement, choreography, and teaching was nourished in my hometown dance studio and further developed and refined at Slippery Rock University where I am an honored graduate of the dance program. My training and professional credits include acting, singing, and choreography, all of which I have been doing since childhood. Drawing often upon dramatic instinct in my work as a contemporary dance artist, this investment in additional skills has seasoned me as a performer. In the past I have performed with Pennsylvania Dance Theatre, Allied Motion, and Houston’s award-winning Suchu Dance. A frequent collaborating artist with Frame Dance Productions, my most recent performances are captured on film.
A respected dance instructor for more than 16 years, I have a diverse teaching history. My dedication to educating through the art of dance has served pupils in both academic and recreational settings. I’ve instructed technique and repertory at Penn State University – Altoona, spent three years as the dance director at an all-girl summer camp in Massachusetts, and I’ve taught within numerous private dance studios and community programs.
My writing and blogging is fed by these varied experiences. In 2008 I launched DanceAdvantage.net, single-handedly operating, editing, and producing content for the popular dance education website. In addition, I cover Houston dance with news and reviews for Dance Source Houston and regularly pen dance articles for other blogs and arts resources online.
I balance this multifaceted career with motherhood. I am a stay/work-at-home mom to two young children who inspire my creativity and enrich my purpose. As my personal priorities have changed with the growth of my family, dance writing has become an exciting new shift in a career that has been changelessly committed to dance.
